How to Wear Denim On Denim

Wearing an open denim button down on top of a black turtleneck with jeans, black belt with a gold buckle, and black shoes with pom pom fur.
When I was younger I never wore denim. I didn’t like the texture or the look of it. My grandmother even hand made me a denim jacket with embroidered patches on it and I refused to wear it. Now of course I wish I had that jacket as it was a beautiful piece, and it’s totally on trend today. These days I find myself wearing denim more and more. Mainly because it’s machine washable and perfect for running errands in. So for this errand running Saturday I’m wearing denim on denim. To break up the pieces I added a black turtleneck, black belt, and my favourite black fur pom pom shoes. What do you think of this look? Do you like the denim on denim trend? Is it something you would wear?

  3. I am basically living in denim, but I rarely style it as sexy and ladylike as you do, more casual and laid-back for my day-to-day running around.

    1. Thank you Anne. I never really thought of this as sexy or lady like. Maybe it's because I'm wearing jewelry and posing, instead of my usual slightly hunched over stance with heavy grocery bags in hands, haha.

  10. Hahah I was the same when I was a child! My Mum used to buy me loads of denim dresses and I refused to wear them! I am loving your double denim styling here- the black turtleneck really adds to the 70s vibes of the look :)

  14. yes, I totally love this denim on denim trend...and I do wear it myself. Now that you mention how you didn't use to like wearing denim, I also had this phase in my life when I didn't wear jeans at all. I felt like wearing jeans was stopping me from becoming more creative with my outfits or something...but after not wearing jeans for a while, I was all ready to embrace it again.

you do look stunning in those jeans....gorgeous denim shirt as well. Perfect pairing!!!!

  25. I wish your grandmother was my grandmother so that she could make me all those things that she made you but oh well. This trend is called the Canadian tuxedo and it never goes out of style. I love how you styled yours and added the top underneath instead of wearing the denim shirt alone. I would totally rock this trend. You look stunning dear!

    1. Oh I've heard that "Canadian tuxedo" term. I should have used that in this post. And it's funny when I read your post about your grandmother I thought I wish she was mine so I could watch her and learn how to do all of those things on the farm. It's so amazing how back then our grandparents could do so much without the internet or any technological help. Thank you Meron :)

  35. This is such a fab denim on denim pairing, Lili! I love how you worked with two different washes, which create a more distinct look and effect and the addition of the black pieces work perfectly; I love those shoes (you have the best shoe collection)! Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

  44. I was precisely like you, Lili, and in fact, I never wore denim until I was in my mid 30s :) when I purchased my first pair of jeans. These days, I'm very much in love with the fabric and I think you look absolutely lovely!!!

  45. I think you look absolutely stunning. It's harder to wear denim on denim than we think and not everyone can actually pull it off, but I think you did an amazing job. Personally, it's a trend I haven't given in into, but one I want to nonetheless because I absolutely love it.
