Black Velvet & Purple Fuzz

Wearing black velvet blazer, handmade purple fuzz scarf, belted over the blazer.
Today is Mardi Gras which is celebrated in some cities here in the U.S. so I thought I would add some purple fuzz to my black velvet outfit to celebrate. Where I live there is no celebration, but in cities such as New Orleans, people dress up in fun costumes usually in the colours of purple, green and yellow to celebrate. This purple fuzzy scarf was a handmade gift from my step father’s mother. I just love the colour and softness of the material.

I know a lot of you would shove these handmade items in the back of your closet never to see the light of day, but I think these are special gifts. It’s something that no one else has and that was made with love especially for you. What do you think of handmade gifts? Do you wear things your grandmother knitted for you? Are you celebrating today?

  2. Both my grandmother and my mother do knit very well, and I treasure the items they gave me. I have several cozy sweaters my mother knitted and the fact that she did adds extra comfort when wearing them.

    1. That is wonderful that your mom makes them too. A lot of the items I had no longer fit so I gave them away. I wish both my grandmother and step grandmother were still here so I could have them make more - and teach me how to knit as well.

  3. I love the scarf, the lavender shade is so calming, especially with the fuzzy fabric. I love how you combined it with all black, creating a perfect look for Mardi Gras! I've never been gifted with a handmade gift before, but I agree, it really is special and wonderful to know that someone thought of you enough to make something special and unique just for you! Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you're having a wonderful day so far!

  30. Handmade gift??? Now that is precious!!! Am sorry that in your city you don't celebrate Mardi Gras. That scarf looks so pretty and fluffy and useful for cold weather as well. I love how you styled it with the other outfits. My grandmother never knitted anything for me but I still have somethings that she bought and I cherish them a lot.

    1. Thank you Meron. I remember reading your post about your grandmother. She was the one working the farm and getting the water right? I don't think she would have time to knit with all the amazing things she did :)
